This page is a translation: the French version prevails, and French law applies.
Updated on 27 October 2026: the book and the subscription are now paid for.

Intellectual property
The book Reading the Sky: Mountain Weather for Paragliding, Hang Gliding and Hiking by Pierre Verley, its texts, its figures, its animations, its quizzes and its games, as well as the website’s code, are protected by copyright. Any reproduction, distribution or reuse without prior written permission is prohibited (articles L.335-2 et seq. of the French Intellectual Property Code). The book was written with the help of artificial intelligence: see the author and the book.
Applicable law
This notice and the conditions below are governed by French law.
2. Terms of use of the book and the website
2.1 The service
The website lets you read the book online, with its figures, its animations, its quizzes, its games, its glossary and an assistant that answers from the text; it also sells the book in ePub. Using the website constitutes acceptance of these terms.
Without signing up, the following are open to everyone: the preface, the prelude, chapters 1 and 2, appendix E, the quizzes for every chapter, three games, part of the glossary and the beginning of the book in ePub.
2.2 The account and the subscription
The rest of the book online, its animations, the other games and the assistant are reserved for subscribers (section 3). Opening an account is free: it requires a first name, a surname and an e-mail address. Consent to being contacted again by Pierre Verley is optional (see section 4).
Readers who signed up before 27 October 2026, who received the book during its launch, are its beta testers: their subscription is free, for life.
Signing in requires no password: a link sent by e-mail, valid for 30 minutes and for one use only, opens a 30-day session on the device. Access is personal: share neither your sign-in links nor your session.
2.3 Your copy
The book bought on the website is an ePub copy numbered in the buyer’s name, for their personal and private use. It may not be copied for a third party, distributed or resold. Each copy carries marks, visible and invisible, and a QR code that make it possible to know to whom it was issued: a copy distributed without permission can thus be traced back to the copy it came from. Its unauthorised distribution is an infringement (contrefaçon, article L.335-2 of the French Intellectual Property Code).
2.4 The book’s assistant
Its answers are written by an artificial intelligence (Claude, by Anthropic) from passages of the book. They may be inaccurate or incomplete: check them in the section cited. The number of questions per day is limited. Do not write any personal information in it.
2.5 A word of caution
The figures in the book and on the website are typical values, to be checked against your own terrain. They replace neither training, nor the day’s forecast, nor calling it off when the sky demands it. The decision to fly or to set off remains yours: to the extent permitted by law, the publisher and the author are not liable for decisions made on the basis of the book or the website.
2.6 Availability and misuse
We do our best to keep the website accessible at all times, without being able to guarantee it. In the event of misuse (sharing access, distributing the copy, robots), we may suspend the access concerned, after notifying the reader.
2.7 Changes
These terms may change. The date of the update appears at the top of the page; a significant change is announced by e-mail to registered readers.
3. Conditions of sale
The book and the website subscription are bought on the The book and the subscription page. The seller is L’Atelier de Baden (section 1).
3.1 The book and the plans
| Offer | Price, VAT included | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| The book (ePub) | €6.99, VAT at 5.5% | Once; with a month’s subscription free |
| Monthly subscription | €3.00 a month, VAT at 20% | Every month, until cancelled |
| Yearly subscription | €25.00 a year, VAT at 20% | Every year, until cancelled |
| Supporter subscription | The amount you choose, at least €3.50 a month, VAT at 20% | Every month, until cancelled |
| Helping hand | The amount you choose, from €1 to €500, VAT at 20% | Once |
The subscription opens the whole book online, its animations, the games and the assistant, for as long as it runs. The book bought on the website is your ePub copy, to download from your account (section 2.3); it remains yours, with or without a subscription. A code printed in the book sold by e-book stores also gives a month’s subscription, once per account. Amounts of your choice are set to the nearest ten cents; the supporter subscription may open additional benefits, announced on the website. The helping hand is a donation, which does not open any access.
3.2 Payment and invoice
Payment is made by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay, on the secure page of our provider Mollie: we neither see nor keep your card number. It is immediate: we do not accept bank transfers. For a subscription, the first period (a month or a year) is paid on subscribing, then the same amount is charged automatically to the card for each period. Each payment gives rise to an invoice, sent by e-mail and available on the “The book and the subscription” page. You need an account to buy: the name and the postal address appear on the invoice.
3.3 Cancellation
A subscription carries no commitment and can be cancelled at any time, with one click on the “The book and the subscription” page, or by e-mail to contact@latelierdebaden.fr from the account’s address. A period paid for is due: cancellation takes effect at the end of the current month or year, already paid for, which is not refunded; no payment is taken after that. Deleting your account also cancels the subscription, on the same terms. If a payment fails, the subscription may stop: it can be resumed at any time on the same page.
3.4 No refund, no withdrawal
The book and the subscription are digital content supplied as soon as payment is made. Before paying, you tick a box by which you request this immediate performance and expressly waive your 14-day right of withdrawal (article L.221-28 of the French Consumer Code). This waiver is confirmed to you in the e-mail that follows the payment. A payment is therefore not refunded.
3.5 Disputes
In case of disagreement, write to us first: we will look for an amicable solution. Failing that, a consumer may refer the matter to the court of their choice among those provided for by law.
4. Privacy and personal data
4.1 Data controller
L’Atelier de Baden (section 1). For any question about your data or to exercise your rights: contact@latelierdebaden.fr, or by post to the address of the registered office.
4.2 What is recorded, why, and on what basis
| Data | What for | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| E-mail address, dates of registration and of last sign-in, session cookie | Sending you the sign-in link, opening the reserved chapters to you, erasing accounts that are no longer used | Performance of the service |
| First name, surname, copy number; invisible mark and access code of the copy; number of times its QR code is scanned; copy from which a registration comes | The register of copies: knowing to whom a copy was issued if a copy circulates, giving the same number back to anyone who returns | The author’s legitimate interest in protecting his book |
| Consent to be contacted again by Pierre Verley, and its date | Writing to you about his services (artificial-intelligence assistants, training, project support) and his next books. Your details are neither sold nor passed on. | Your consent, which is optional; you can withdraw it at any time |
| Questions asked to the assistant, answers, volume of text processed | Answering, limiting abuse, monitoring the cost, improving the book (a question that keeps coming back points to a passage that needs explaining better) | Legitimate interest |
| If you buy the book or subscribe: billing name and postal address, plan, amounts and dates of payments, Mollie identifiers, invoice numbers, date of your waiver of the right of withdrawal; date of purchase of the book and free subscriptions (beta tester, free month) | Collecting payment, invoicing, opening access, stopping a cancelled subscription | Performance of the contract; legal obligation (invoices) |
| Pages viewed and actions on the website (section 5) | Knowing what is read and where readers drop off, to improve the book | Legitimate interest; you can object at any time |
The service does not record your IP address: it only uses it, in memory and for the day, to limit requests from robots. The web server’s technical logs keep it for 14 days, for its security.
4.3 Who receives your data
| Provider | What for | What it receives | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| OVHcloud | Hosting the website, the service and the data | The data above, stored on its servers | France |
| Brevo | Sending the e-mails: sign-in link, thank-you and invoice | Your e-mail address and the message | France / EU |
| Anthropic (Claude) | The book’s assistant | Your question and extracts from the book, never your e-mail address | United States |
| PostHog | Audience measurement | Pages viewed, actions and recording of browsing (inputs masked); for signed-in readers, their e-mail address, their registration, the download of their copy, their purchases and their subscription (plan, amount, date of payments) | EU; American company |
| Mollie | Collecting payment for your purchases (card), and for each period of a subscription | Your name, your e-mail address, the amount; your card, entered on its page | Netherlands / EU |
| Qonto | Issuing and keeping the invoices | Your first name, your surname, your e-mail and postal addresses, the amount | France / EU |
| Google (Workspace) | The mailbox of the contact address, if you write to us | Your message and your e-mail address | United States / EU |
Finally, your data may be disclosed to the authorities when the law requires it.
4.4 Transfers outside the European Union
Anthropic and Google process data in the United States. PostHog keeps the data in the European Union, but it is an American company: access from the United States remains possible. These transfers rely on the safeguards provided for by the GDPR that these providers offer: participation in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
4.5 How long
| Data | Duration |
|---|---|
| Sign-in link | Valid for 30 minutes, once only; its trace is erased after 24 hours |
Session (cookie pm_session) | 30 days, renewed after a payment |
| Questions to the assistant and answers | 12 months |
| Account: address, dates, consent to be contacted again | As long as you use it; erased automatically after 3 years without signing in |
| Register of copies | As long as the book is distributed, including after your account is deleted |
| Purchases and subscription: billing, payments, subscription, invoices | 10 years (accounting obligation), including after your account is deleted |
| Number of downloads of your copy in the day (limit of 10) | 2 days |
| Limits against robots (IP address) | The day, in memory only |
4.6 Security
Encrypted connections (HTTPS). Sign-in without a password: the service keeps only the fingerprint of the links and sessions, not their value. Servers in France at OVHcloud, administrative access restricted. If a data breach presented a risk to you, we would notify the CNIL and, where the law requires it, the people concerned.
4.7 Your rights
You may at any time access your data and obtain a copy of it, have it rectified or erased, request the restriction of its processing or object to it, in particular to direct marketing, without having to give reasons, retrieve the data you have provided to us in a reusable format, and set out instructions on what happens to your data after your death.
The simplest way: the Your data page, where you can view and download it, withdraw your consent to be contacted again or delete your account. Otherwise, write to contact@latelierdebaden.fr: we reply within one month and may ask you to prove your identity. The register of copies and the invoices remain after the account is deleted, for the reasons given above; an error in your name can be corrected there on simple request.
If you consider that your rights are not being respected, you may lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07).
5. Cookies, storage and audience measurement
- The session cookie (
pm_session), set when you sign in, keeps you signed in for 30 days. It is necessary for the service and is used for nothing else. - Your browser’s storage keeps your reading progress, your quiz scores, your games and what you told us on the home page (fly, hike, both). This data stays on the device, is not sent to the service, and can be viewed or erased in Your data.
- Audience measurement uses PostHog, hosted in the European Union: pages viewed, reading time and milestones, clicks, illustrations interacted with, quiz answers and game results, what you told us on the home page, technical errors on the pages, and a recording of browsing (scrolling, clicks), in which input fields are masked. It keeps a randomly drawn identifier in your browser (cookie and storage
ph_…). For signed-in readers, it is linked to their e-mail address and to their consent to be contacted again; the service adds their registration, the download of their copy and, if they support the book, the plan, the amount and the date of each payment. Neither the text of the questions to the assistant and of its answers, nor the name, the copy number or the postal address are sent to it. You can object to it at any time: open this link, or any page of the website followed by?suivi=non; measurement is then switched off on this browser, and if you use your account there, your objection applies to the account too: the service no longer measures anything about you. Thepm_suivicookie keeps this choice for one year. - During a payment, Mollie applies its own cookies on its payment page.
No advertising tracker is placed.
